Bob Roepke introduced Mike McMahan, the CEO of St. Francis Regional Medical Center. Mike has developed his career in health care and business management in Colorado and Minnesota, joining St. Francis a year ago. His presentation focused on the changes in health care, and the factors behind them – regulations, technology, competition, quality improvement and moving away from the notion that “heads in beds” was no longer going to guide the delivery of health care. St. Francis had $121M revenue in 2014, with 484 resident and affiliated physicians. During the year, there were over 100,000 outpatient visits, 27,000 emergency room events, and over 5,000 in-patient stays. The Center has 3 owners: Allina, Park Nicollet/Health Partners, and Essentia Health. These organizations and facilities like St. Francis have established Minnesota as one of the best health care environments in the country, but at twice the cost of similar service in other countries. Mike outlined the changes that are taking place and how they are intended to improve the value and efficiency of our health care experiences.
