Last Week's Presentation

Denny Loving introduced our speaker – Darren Noble, the Executive Director of the Southwest Metro Chamber of Commerce. Darren has more than 20 years of leadership experience in higher education, government, corporate retail/sales, and nonprofit industries. He has a Bachelor’s degree (Education) from Boise State University; and a Master’s degree (English) from Oregon State University. He was the Director of Career Services for six years at Crown College and the past president of the Rotary Club of Waconia-West Carver. Darren volunteers with the Waconia High School Choir Boosters Club.

Darren provided an interesting introduction to his family, his residences around the country, and even his creation of a cauliflower-based pizza crust! He knows Chaska Rotarian Keith Payne through Keith’s participation on the Chamber’s Board of Directors. Darren reviewed the core focus of the Chamber and its 320 members in the cities of Chaska, Carver, Chanhassen, and Victoria, as well as in the smaller locales in this region. The COVID challenges began for Darren during his first days on the job and have kept on testing his abilities and experience to stay positive and promote the welfare of our businesses and their employees. His well-designed slide presentation allowed us to see the many activities and efforts to overcome the pandemic’s hurdles. Darren’s enthusiasm and examples of positive learning offered by Greg  Anderson will surely keep us moving forward and meeting 2022’s challenges with success.

Club Announcements and Updates

FINEMASTER: Dan Keyport provided each table with a short synopsis of a movie, and we were challenged to identify the movie it described. Most tables were stumped but happy to pay their fine. Their wallets must have been emptied because no Happy Dollars were offered afterwards. Each table was also encouraged to offer up a Finemaster to assume the duty each week in October. The possibility for Payback keeps us all polite and in keeping with the Four Way Test!

Phil Solseng thanked those attending the club social event at his house. This next weekend there will be a fund-raiser at his barn to commemorate a son’s friend who died of cancer.

Matt Podhradsky thanked those who helped their neighbors in this year’s belated XMAS in May. Next year, Matt believes that the projects will be completed in May.

Gretchen Oppriecht announced Al Grover has resigned from the club.

Pat Schaffran has coordinated with the Chaska Curling and Event Center to provide the venue for our breakfast meetings on October 14, 21, and 28.
