Club Announcements and Updates
Finemaster and Happy Dollars: Jodi Hesse served up a Tax Day plate to whet our appetites for the details of income tax filing. A list of questions taxed the combined knowledge at each table. The group that answered the most puzzlers correctly was rewarded with a non-taxable dose of pride. All the rest of us lost some of our assets. Happy Dollars were donated (not deductible?) by Gretchen Oppriecht, John Roebke, and David Brecht.
Keith Payne asked for the Pond Hockey team to gather after today’s meeting.
Vic Benetti let us know the STRIVE students and others will visit Dunwoody College on May 12. It isn’t yet clear if Rotarians will participate.
Gretchen Oppriecht read a letter of appreciation from Carver County Commissioner member Matt Udermann.
The Scholarship Committee has received 20 applications and will be scheduling the interviews soon.
Bob Moeller reminded us that the Rotary Foundation fiscal year ends at the end of June. Our club is asking that we achieve 100% participation of our members contributing at least $25 each this year. Talk with Bob or Dan Keyport if you have questions about how to use the MyRotary website to make donations.
David Neubauer, the Rotary District 5952 Area 6 Assistant Governor, joined us for breakfast and provided an inspiring set of examples of what those Foundation donations can achieve. Projects funded by Area 6 clubs including Chaska and David’s Chanhassen club have helped bring water to Kenya communities and life-sustaining food and materials for people impacted by Russian aggression in Ukraine.
Postscript: Green Card Voices
Our Rotary club helped sponsor a month-long display and presentations at the Chaska Community Center that highlight the contributions of recent immigrants working in the Twin Cities. Rotarians Vic Benetti, Phil Solseng and Neil Wingert attended the initial event on April 17. A TPT public television video was shown that described the hardships inside communist-controlled Romania and the journeys made of immigrants to Minnesota. The video was followed by discussions with two ex-Romanians who are now US citizens. Home-made Romanian pastries added to the learning experienced by attendees.
