PRESENTATION
Tonia Teasley, American Red Cross

Invocation: Rick Ness

Cindy Anderson introduced Tonia Teasley, Chief Executive Officer of the Minnesota and Dakotas Region for the American Red Cross.  Tonia previously worked at Untangle the Knot, a Minneapolis-based nonprofit advocating to simplify access to services for people with disabilities, an organization she founded.

Beyond her professional experience, Teasley serves as a board member for Beyond Walls Urban Squash Twin Cities, a nonprofit focused on building academic excellence, character and well-being for youth in under-resourced communities.

Ms. Teasley recalled that she was initially inspired by visiting the Red Cross shelters that were established during California wildfires. Throughout her presentation, Tonia was able to include details that portrayed the personal effect of the organization in its many facets – emergency response, collecting 40% of our country’s blood supply, helping armed forces members, training for swimmers and lifeguards, CPR and first aid education, help for refugees, and coordination with other Red Cross/Crescent groups.

Current challenges include serving parts of community with people of color and Native Americans that might be underserved by mainstream methods.  She noted the rising severity of weather- and climate-related emergencies. Tonia welcomed the high school graduates to engage with the Red Cross and maintain the relationship through their lives so the good work can continue through the generations.

Club Announcements and Updates

Finemaster and Happy Dollars: No finemaster today but happy dollars were given by Matt Podhradsky, Nate Bostrom, Andy Haugen.

Announcements
A memorial service for Karl and Signey Nylene will be held June 18 in Shakopee, at 10:30 AM, St. John’s Lutheran Church.  There will be a lunch at Dangerfield's in Shakopee to follow.  So the family can plan, please let Vic Benetti know if you plan to attend and how many: vicb@canopyfg.com.

Ray Schalow’s wife Judy thanked the club for adding purpose to her husband’s life and supporting her these past weeks since his sudden death.  Judy was a substitute teacher for many years, so her participation during the scholarship awards was special for her.  She donated $500 to our STRIVE program in Ray’s memory.  His memorial service will be at Ft. Snelling on August 3.

Matt Podhradsky asked for one or two members to join the Design Committee for the Miracle Field project.  He also was able to present Gretchen Oppriecht with a mug, a pin and the treasured Past President badge before she runs away to Alaska for two months.  There was not enough time for all of us to thank Gretchen for her tireless efforts to lead our club this past year, with unprecedented challenges and great successes!

Gretchen presented Ryan Seibert with his new member badge. He really was smiling when he wasn’t wearing his Chaska Police Chief face!
