PRESENTATION: C

Celi Haga chaired the Rotary Scholarship Team that included Ken Hiller, Bob Chinnock, Lindsay Hagan and Jean Heyduck.  Today, their work produced a memorable day for the students selected for scholarships and their families.  Most of the students and several families attended our ceremony.  We were all treated to an inspiring presentation by Nayely Becerra Castillo, a 2011 graduate of Chanhassen High School.

Ms. Castillo infused her honesty and self-confidence into advice for the students and undoubtedly made connections with their individual thoughts about their futures.  Nayely admitted that after growing up in Chaska, she yearned to get out of a “small city” and was smiling when she said that she ended up in another small town for college.   Going against the traditional advice to “never give up,” she cautioned the students to consider changing directions if their life choices aren’t connecting with who they really are, or who they have become.

In May of 2024 Nayely received a master’s degree and now is the Associate Director of Retention and Student Success, Student Diversity and Inclusion Services at the University of St. Thomas.

Celi Haga introduced the students, and they indicated the next academic steps they will be taking.

Upcoming Invocation

Note from John Roebke:  Invocations can be a faith traditional prayer, or a meditation, or inspirational verse or quote.  Brief 20 – 30 seconds.  Light-hearted is okay.  Option: focus on our Mission of Service Above Self.  Need an idea – Google Rotary Invocations.  Not a personal talent? Don't wait, tell me NOW, 612-790-7067, john.roebke@live.com.  I will be glad to name another.  If I forgot that you told me not a talent, please forgive me.  Remind me.  If not a good DATE, trade with a mate.
