George Glaros aligned his queries toward the political history of Minnesota. Our combined teams of brainiacs stumped poor George when 8 consecutive tables answered correctly. After several weeks of humility, our members could finally have a modicum of self-respect in front of our esteemed speakers!
Happy Dollars were surprisingly limited except for a big donation from Bob Moeller.
Nate Bostrom introduced 3 of our 5 Board of County Commissioners - (left to right) Matt Udermann, John Fahey, and Gayle Degler. They provided commentary on the attractive characteristics of Carver County, plans for improvement, and projections on population attributes. Matt Udermann represents District 3 and has a career background in business marketing and management. John Fahey represents District 5 is a former mayor of Norwood Young America and retired from a career in banking. Gayle Degler represents District 1 and is a former teacher.
Gayle Degler noted that Chaska initially attracted residences because of their work associated with farming, the brick-making industry, and production of sugar and flour milling. Ethnic groups based on European ancestry and religions also became magnets for settling in this area. Our modern era provides more diverse options for employment and careers, but additionally, our community offers amenities and features that highlight our county as a great place to live. John Fahey summarized current and future infrastructure enhancements along Highway 212. High-speed internet construction has progressed to 150 miles towards a goal of 300 miles. Matt Udermann noted the changing age and racial demographics within the county. He described efforts to invest in the social infrastructure, including a program through the county’s Public Health Department – Communities of Belonging (link).
A few Questions produced Answers and discussion about electric vehicles, high-speed internet, County office space planning, and the role of the Community Development Agency.
Our club is partnered with Chaska Parks and Recreation to provide our community with a music festival in October at the Athletic Park baseball field. Starting at noon and ending at 10 PM, seven music sets will be performed. Folk, rock, and Americana tunes will attract a variety of attendees and the proceeds will support the building of a Miracle League field and Universal Playground for children of all abilities.
Our Club Secretary, Kristy Miklas, has provided the following so that members can see the use of our quarterly dues and be aware of issues resulting from the reduction in membership.
