FINEMASTER + Happy Dollars
No finemaster today. Happy Dollars were donated by Matt Podhradsky, Cindy Anderson and guest speaker Jennifer Van Wyk, City of Lakes Rotary Club.
Woman’s Club of Minneapolis, Jennifer Van Wyk, Kevin Winge
Kaylee McClellan introduced the two speakers representing the Woman’s Club of Minneapolis – Kevin Winge, the Executive Director and Jennifer Van Wyk, the director of Strategic Growth. A video explained the long history of the Woman’s Club and its building in Minneapolis. Created in an era where business and cities were led by “older, white, privileged men”, the club became unique due to its members being “older, white, privileged women.” Since then, the Club has diversified its membership and focused on collaborating with the area’s non-profits that focus on community events, care for those who are unhoused and food-challenged. Loring Park, the arts, music, science students and educational lectures also receive the Club’s attention. Jennifer and Kevin described the membership decline following COVID and their efforts to raise money to improve and maintain their historic location.
Note from John Roebke: Invocations can be a faith traditional prayer, or a meditation, or inspirational verse or quote. Brief 20 – 30 seconds. Light-hearted is okay. Option: focus on our Mission of Service Above Self. Need an idea – Google Rotary Invocations. Not a personal talent? Don't wait, tell me NOW, 612-790-7067, john.roebke@live.com. I will be glad to name another. If I forgot that you told me not a talent, please forgive me. Remind me. If not a good DATE, trade with a mate.
