Club Announcements

  • Michelle Kraus asked for volunteers to provide functional assistance needed for the Chaska Cares Music Festival.  We need to check IDs and distribute wrist bands that authorize alcohol sales.  Selling drink tickets and raffle tickets are also actions that will be needed.  Shifts are 3:30 – 7:00 PM and 7:00 – 10:30 PM.
INSTRUCTIONS  Sellers should ensure the ticket buyer’s name, address, phone and email information are legible.  The portion not stapled to the packet is to be kept by the buyer so they can deposit the left stub to be eligible for prizes at the Fest.  The “Night of Prize Ticket” should be ignored – it remains stapled to the other stubs.  The buyer does not need to be present at the Fest to be entered in the drawing for half the cash collected.  That winner will be announced at 8:45 PM on Sept. 20 at Firemen’s Park.  The buyer’s personal information will be shredded after the Fest. To comply with Minnesota’s raffle rules, all stapled ticket stubs must be accounted for.  Unsold tickets will not be billed to Rotarians.  Proceeds should be given to Michelle or Keith Payne.  To help you explain the good deed that contributors are doing when they buy a raffle ticket, direct them to the website explaining the Miracle League and Field project: LINK.
  • Matt Podhradsky invited golfers to sign up to play at the Town Course on Sept. 6 to participate in the all-day fundraiser that benefits the Miracle League.  Construction plans for the field are starting this month.
  • Bob Chinnock invited members to become STRIVE mentors.

  • Cindy Anderson has us looking forward to a Pot Luck Social at the Solseng’s shed on September 28.  It is coincident with the Carver County Arts Consortium “Wander” being held that weekend, so we can add to our appreciation of this special occasion.
BIRTHDAYS and CLUB ANNIVERSARIES

Lon Hand has a birthday this month (Sept. 21).  Club Anniversaries for September: Kevin Eide (45 years), Dave Pokorney (39 years), David Melchert (17 years), Erika Kennedy (3 years), and Celi Haga (3 years).

ROTARY EXCHANGE STUDENT - Marco Alonsos

Marco continued his camping (Lake Superior!) and futball experiences over the Labor Day weekend, then he started school this week.  His excellent English and enthusiasm brightened up our meeting!  A memorable quote from him: “I am really happy with absolutely everything!”

FINEMASTER + HAPPY DOLLARS

Finemaster George Glaros took advantage of our members' familiarity with the topic – BEER!  However, frequent consumption did not equate to knowledge.  The depths of beer trivia were uncapped and the bottom of the barrels were explored.  How much beer is consumed annually? How many breweries are in the USA? Where is the world’s oldest operating brewery?  These were some of the stumpers we faced.  Ken Hiller saved us from a no-hitter by remembering IPA means India Pale Ale.

After our dismal performance, luckily, Marco’s happiness had spread to John Roebke and Erin Kerber, so they added Happy Dollars to the morning’s donations.

PRESENTATION: Auburn Homes + Services – Bob Kuhlman and Mary Krant

Wayne Ward provided the introduction for speakers Bob Kuhlman and Mary Krant who represented Auburn Homes and Services.  From their website: “We are a not-for-profit organization that focuses on its mission of providing comfortable housing, caring services and activities that focus on the body, mind, and spirit of each individual that joins our family. Our vision is to empower our residents to live life with purpose and passion. Whether it’s assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing or rehab, Auburn Homes & Services has provided customized senior care in Carver County since 1928.”

Bob Kuhlman has spoken to us several times in his twelve years associated with Auburn Homes + Services.  He described many of the projects and programs that Rotary has funded, and related the improved standards of residential living and staff working environments.  Bob chairs the Auburn Foundation, and its Board of Directors includes several current and past Rotarians.
Mary Krant is the Housing Manager for the organization.  She noted the financial constraints created by the Covid pandemic were overcome by association with Illuminus – a faith-based (Moravian Ministries) not-for-profit senior living management company with headquarters and other facilities in Wisconsin.  The Chaska area includes Auburn Courts, Auburn Courtyard, Auburn Manor and Talheim Apartments.  In Waconia, their properties include Auburn Home in Waconia, Auburn Meadows and Reflections at Meadows.

Upcoming Invocation

Note from John Roebke:  Invocations can be a faith traditional prayer, or a meditation, or inspirational verse or quote.  Brief 20 – 30 seconds.  Light-hearted is okay.  Option: focus on our Mission of Service Above Self.  Need an idea – Google Rotary Invocations.  Not a personal talent? Don't wait, tell me NOW, 612-790-7067, john.roebke@live.com.  I will be glad to name another.  If I forgot that you told me not a talent, please forgive me.  Remind me.  If not a good DATE, trade with a mate.
