FINEMASTER

This week Steve tested us on our Wisconsin knowledge in light of his impending move in two weeks. You were fined if you didn’t know Wisconsin produces the most Ginseng or that Wisconsin is nicknamed “the Badger State.” And why is it nicknamed the Badger State you ask? The name stems from Wisconsin’s lead mining past. Finally, one table was fined for not knowing where the oldest existing house in Wisconsin is located. Turns out it is in Green Bay.

ROTARY EXCHANGE STUDENT - Natasha Palmelund

Natasha talked about her first track meet, indoors, where she ran the 4x400 for the first time. She spoke to her mom, who told her to sprint the whole way! Natasha has made it clear she is not a fan of our warm weather. Lucky for her our stretch of warm weather is coming to an end for the weekend! She also shared with us that she participated in two Easter Egg Huns. The first one was with 14 girls who hunted for 100 eggs!

PRESENTATION:
Matt Podhradsky, Chaska Miracle League Project, Design Update and Fundraising Plan

Matt updated us on this major project in the community – Chaska’s Miracle League Field and Universal Designed Playground. He started by updating us on
what they have accomplished so far including raising close to
$350,000 in cash and in-kind donations! They also recently
submitted a grant to the DNR for $350,000 to support park
development. Matt also told us that the city has
purchased the property and will be donated to the project.

Location for the Miracle League Field and Universal Design Playground/Restrooms:

Matt shared some renderings of what the park will look like. It will include a
baseball field, playground, and shelter. The playground will bring all kids together
whether they have a disability or not and the shelter will include services that
parents really need.

A fundraising subgroup was established for this project and they have already met
and created an initial fundraising plan. Matt shared that the estimated cost of the
project is $1.5 million dollars. The targeted fundraising amount for Rotary is $1
million dollars. They have $371,000 to date and need to raise $629,000. The city is
going front the money for 5-year sponsorship commitments. This means they need
to raise $126,000 each year for 5 years. Of this $629,000, $310,000 is expected
from various sources of annual revenue which leaves $319,000 in additional
sponsorships. This breaks down to $64,000 per year. Matt went over the different
sponsorship levels that the subgroup identified. They will need 17 single sponsors,
and this is where the Rotary members come in. Each Rotarian will partner with
another Rotarian to find one business to commit to at this sponsor level. This
fundraising effort will occur between June 1 and August 1. Matt mentioned that
this sponsorship will include sponsorship in Chaska Cares so we are not asking
businesses twice. There is still a lot to be done before this fundraising effort gets
underway, but the end result is awesome – a permanent facility that helps build
a community for all in Chaska!!
