Last Week's Presentation
Gretchen introduced our current District Governor Marianna Khauv (2021-22) and her successor Lloyd Campbell (2022-23). We were the 58 the club they have “visited” this year, out of 67 clubs in our District, so they are true evidence of “Service Above Self”. Marianna is from Monticello, MN, and Lloyd is from Glenwood, MN.
Marianna provided her background as an emigree from Taiwan and her husband’s journey as a refugee from Cambodia. She shared a message from the President of Rotary International “Each One, Bring One” to call attention to the need for increasing Rotary membership. Other challenges included “Every Rotarian Every Year” to support The Rotary Foundation with a $25 donation; “Elect a Public Image Chair” to ensure we send a consistent message throughout Rotary clubs; and “End Polio Now” with a $1,500 contribution from every club.
The geography, hierarchy, and positions within Rotary were illustrated, and we were invited to participate in conferences and training seminars, and even to build a Rotary float that will be in the 2022 Rose Bowl Parade. Perhaps the illustration pictured to the right is a preview.
Dan Keyport and Bob Moeller are our Rotary Foundation chairs and they encourage us to use the internet site https://My.Rotary.org to self-manage contributions to the Foundation. Users of Amazon Prime were encouraged to designate Rotary to receive funds based on customer purchases.
Club Announcements and Updates
Gretchen Oppriecht recognized our members who have served in the armed forces for this year's Veterans Day.
Besides new members Nate Peterson and Denny Loving, Erika Kennedy joined our Club in October. Here is her photo. Erika works in the Carver County Community Health + Human Services Department, with a special interest in inclusiveness. Her
work contact phone: 952-361-1500.
Gretchen gave our wallets some time off for good behavior next week. Our Nov. 18 meeting will end at 8:20, so there will not be a Finemaster on the program. In return, she asked us to complete a survey sent via email from District 5950 several times in the past week.
Char Weber is checking “Her List” once or twice, for those naughty or nice in preparation for our annual holiday auction. At our Dec. 16 meeting, each of us should bring in a wrapped gift and a description of its content mysteriously written so it sparks interest and competitive bidding among our members. Fun is expected to fill our morning! A gift value of $25 or more would be appreciated, but humor, as well as generosity, are the objectives of this event!
Greg Kummer announced that Heroes and Helpers will be Saturday, December 4th from 9:00 AM to noon. This is a collaboration with the Chaska Target store, Chaska’s Police, Explorer Scouts, and Community Emergency Response Team to provide presents and gift cards to selected members of the community. Earlier this year, Greg organized a golf benefit to help fund this, but we will also “pass the hat” in our next 2 meetings (11/18, 12/2) so all of us can contribute. If you enjoy teamwork and seeing smiles on children's faces, you can also help wrap presents in the conference room located in the back left corner of the store. Target is requiring masks to be worn in the conference room. They are not requiring them in the store area. Please help contribute to this annual event with your time and/or donation that exemplifies the holiday spirit.
Greg Anderson is helping His House Foundation in Chaska by collecting funds that purchase vouchers that are distributed to individuals/families experiencing homelessness to be used at a local laundromat. Please contact him if you want to help in that program.
The Covid-induced Zoom meeting model is challenging in many ways, including Finemaster. Dan Keyport attributed ”altered “ sayings to a dozen or so members, and they were assessed a fine. If you were one of those fortunate to have attracted Dan’s attention, please add a dollar or two to your next club billing. If we obtain a flying pig drone, perhaps that will make Dan’s collection process a little more successful. Happy Dollars were promised by John Roebke and Gretchen.
