Invocation: Bob Chinnock, John Roebke
Matt Podhradsky shared a Thank You note from School District 112 for our New Educators Breakfast.
Michelle Kraus provided sign-up sheets to staff our Wine Tent at the Llama-Rama.
Gary Cooper pointed to another artistic endeavor – a Chaska Area Quilt Club exhibition at the Chaska Community Center on Sept. 23 + 24.
FINEMASTER
Dave Pokorney brought back memories from long ago as he described the role of Finemasters and the source of fines in the days of overhead projectors and Silver Certificates – certainly NOT the Truth, NOT Fair to all concerned, NOT necessarily Building Good Will, but assuredly Beneficial for our Club finances! Those who enjoyed Dave’s nostalgia: Denny Loving, Bob Chinnock, John Roebke, Lisa Anderson, Mike Fahey, Matt Podhradsky, Ken Hiller, Matt Szybnski, Dui Debower, Gary Cooper, Dan Keyport, David Brecht, Mike Wentzell, Erin Kerber, and those not wearing name badges or Rotary pins. Happy Dollars were contributed by our happy walkers Gretchen Oppriecht, Amanda Bloomgren, and Sheryl Hough.
ROTARY EXCHANGE STUDENT: Natasha Palmelund
A sleepover with new friends left Natasha with memories of an indoor trampoline but not much sleep. She found local excitement at the Valleyfair amusement park but also confessed some confusion about our seasonal fascination with pumpkins. (What will she think when she sees what happens at Halloween!)
PRESENTATION:
Corey Magstadt, Launch Ministry
After continuing to entice our attendance at Llama-Rama with promises of walking with the friendly camelids, picnic at the fairgrounds and activities for children, Amanda Bloomgren recalled our many years of support for Launch Ministry and introduced its leader, Corey Magstad.
Corey provided us with a stark recollection of homeless youth who asked him to publicize the availability a “roommate” to occupy a choice location under the highway 41 crossing of the Minnesota River. Proposing that many of us were blessed with adult guidance as we transitioned out of childhood, Corey noted that those served
by Launch are missing that beneficial connection. Their resulting homelessness and desperation bring both immediate and long-term problems for our communities. Goals of Launch Ministry include establishing trust and support for homeless youth that might provide skills and paths toward becoming contributors to their own welfare. Launch provides housing support, a drop-in center and mentorship that rely on grants, donations and funding from events such as the Llama-Rama.
