o George Glaros Jr.
o Jenny Spalding.
o Jean Heyduck.
To pronounce Jean’s last name properly, say Hello to John Wayne - “Hi Duke!”

FINEMASTER

John Roebke immediately fined the new members and then moved on to the rest of us with questions related to National Women’s Day, wearing something red, the Chicago Board of Trade, and the price for bushels of corn and soybeans. This must have been a challenge for all future Finemasters to come up with unique methods of filling the blue pig and creating faces of puzzlement!

ROTARY EXCHANGE STUDENT - Natasha Palmelund

On March 5, Natasha flew in formation (sort of…) with Cindy Anderson, Steve Wein, Jean Heyduck, and Matt Szybnski’s sons at the I FLY aerodrome in Minnetonka. She filled her free time with visiting the Capital, skating, and watching a Batman movie that was a little too long. Thanks to Erin Kerber for the aerial photography.

PRESENTATION: Victoria - City of Lakes and Parks

Michelle Kraus introduced Debra McMillan, the mayor of Victoria since 2020. Prior to her current role, Deb gained her civic experience in several positions in the Chambers of Commerce and on the Victoria City Council. Deb spoke with us back in February 2021 via Zoom. She organized her presentation into four aspects of life in Victoria: Growth, Vibrancy, Connection, and Resiliency.

New homes have increased by 43% in the past ten years, and there doesn’t seem to be a pause in new construction. Deb shared maps and graphics of new developments and plans for associated improvements in highways and downtown amenities. City activities and gatherings continue to expand and exhibit vibrancy and connections among the residents, city departments, and visitors.

They have initiated a Citizens’ Academy to help communicate the functions within the city. They have established a Community Builder award that recognizes exemplary actions, service, or involvement by individuals in making Victoria a better place.

Mayor McMillan proudly noted the city’s awards for financial excellence and
community engagement. She also provided examples of Resilience through
strategic planning and goals for improving public safety. Following a question by
Bob Roepke, Deb called attention to Humanity Alliance, located in Victoria. It
provides housing, training, and meals delivered to those in need in Carver County.
