Finemaster
With no one scheduled as Finemaster, consensus ruled that those who showed up for our meetings at the wrong location (the Curling Center) instead of the correct place (the Community Center) paid their fines. Our intern Sienna White was glad to make her inaugural rounds with the blue pig. When there was no immediate reply to Matt's "Are there any Happy Dollars?" It looked like Sienna's task would be short. However, Greg Anderston started a thunderstorm of Happy donations from Vic Benetti, Gary Cooper (twice), Wayne Ward, Steve Wein, John Roebke, Matt Szybnski, and Amanda Bloomgren. The morning's pastries must have done their job!
PRESENTATION
President's Preview for the Next Rotary Year
Matt Podhradsky thanked Gretchen Oppriecht and Gary Hardel for their impressive leadership and dedication during the start and continuation of COVID challenges. He then gave us an inspiring view of the months ahead, starting with his personal and professional background, and then he reviewed goals for the next Rotary year:
Keep the club going in a positive direction.
Keep our focus simple and meaningful.
Increase active participation of all members in the club – not just financially, but with their time and talents.
Re-establish the Rotary Student Exchange Program.
Complete one major community project and use fundraisers such as the Pond Hockey event to help accomplish this.
Matt provided details about the major project – Chaska’s Miracle League Field and Universal Playground within a new community park. He reviewed the design features of both aspects of the project that promises to be a destination for current and future residents. Similar facilities have been built in Lakeville and Cottage Grove. We also viewed a brief video produced by NBC that highlighted the happiness of inclusion.
The current progress of the project includes accumulating a third of the financial goal, purchasing land for the park, and forming a visioning group. Matt asked us to become involved in the 2 sub-committees – Design and Fundraising. Lett Matt know of your interest: 952-227-7523, email matt@chaskamn.com
