Club Announcements
Invocation: Mike Vandenberg
Our meeting was held at the Chaska Community Center, with breakfast catered by Cooper’s Foods.
Vic Benetti and Gary Cooper will be transitioning to other activities as Bob Chinnock and others assume the leadership of the Rotary-sponsored STRIVE program. After many years of positive impact on the lives of Chaska’s teenagers, we give our heartfelt thanks to Gary and Vic for their tireless efforts!
Cindy Anderson again invited us to participate in the Art Wander artists’ studio tour, held throughout Carver County on September 23, 24 + 25. Her projects and 7 other artists will be at Rotarian Phil Solseng’s farm. More information: Edge of the Big Woods Art Wander – Artist Studio Tour in Carver County
FINEMASTER + HAPPY DOLLARS
Dave Pokorney took up school librarian duties and showed us the results of the hours he spent on his homework assignment. With his inscrutable demeanor and firmly placed tongue-in-cheek, Dave presented us with book covers of texts that will definitely NOT be part of the next Hooked On Books event. Payments were made by those chosen through no fault of their own.
ROTARY EXCHANGE STUDENT
Natasha reported that she is settling well into school classes, making friends, and learning about this thing known as American Football. She is looking forward to going to Valleyfair amusement park.
Editor’s Note: For most of us who have grown up knowing about American football, we can smile when we see our Exchange students befuddled by the game. To put yourself in their place, listen to Andy Griffith’s 1953 comedy narrative of seeing a football game for the first time: Andy Griffith’s “What It Was, Was Football” Recorded
PRESENTATION:
Matt Podhradsky
Standing in for the scheduled speaker, Matt shared the status of our Pond Hockey Tournament project and the discussions within the Rotary Board. The infrastructure and “permanent” articles associated with the creation of a pond hockey field will be purchased and/or obtained through our funds or donations from sponsors. Tasks and partnerships are being identified to take advantage of the relationships our members have within the community and with hockey organizations.
A trial tournament will be held this winter (Jan. 27-29) to learn more about what we don’t know yet. It will be focused on players 6 to 10 years old.
Funds raised by our Pond Hockey projects will benefit the Miracle Field development and construction. The results of both efforts will keep Rotary and our communities connected throughout the future.
