Jean Heyduck congratulated those with December birthdays and club anniversaries. Neil Wingert celebrated twenty years in the club.
We collected $565 in donations for the Chaska Public Safety Heroes and Helpers Team to buy presents at the Chaska Target Store on Dec. 7. A wrapping party pitting Rotary and Lions Club volunteers against each other starts at 8:30 AM. This fun annual event enables children to pick presents for their family members and enjoy the gift of giving during the holiday season.
Bob Chinnock and the STRIVE mentors will meet today to discuss networking.
Sheryl Hough pitched the need for witty clues, holiday apparel, and generous bidding at the Holiday Auction in two weeks (Dec 19). For our efforts, we’ll get a meal and plenty of excitement.
In the spirit of generosity, we’ve been asked by Celine Haga to have a mini food drive at aour next meeting, Dec. 12. Bag loads of non-perishable items will be added to the collection by Chaska High School. Cash will also be accepted.
Ken Hiller posted the flag from St. Maarten in the Netherlands Antilles, and Dan Keyport explained how he obtained the flag by attending the Rotary club meeting. He recommended we use the Rotary Club Locator app when we’re travelling, so we can regale our club with tales of Rotarian felllowship!

Jim Halloran spoke to our club on October 24, so he should look familiar to those attending that meeting. His membership results from his friendship with Gary Hardel, and we’re glad to have him as part of the Class of 2024!
HAPPY DOLLARS
No Finemaster this morning. Happy Dollars were donated by Gretchen Oppriecht and Vic Benetti.
ROTARY EXCHANGE STUDENT - Marcos Alonsos
Marcos is staying with Dan and Georgiann Keyport for a short while. He was excited to tell us about his long road trip to Virginia and camping with Michelle Kraus and her family. Marcos thinks that Thanksgiving is a good idea, and we should have them more often.
PRESENTATION: – Daniel “Martin” – Writing and Publishing “Popular Delusions”
Daniel “Martin” provided his unique and captivating experience producing a unique and captivating book based on the 1841 book “Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds Madness of Crowds” by Charles Mackay. Mackay, and his modern-day follower, Martin, describe the many illogical, unscientific and magnetizing allure of schemes, follies and profit-seeking endeavors. Researching the delusions described in 1841 and then exploring the depth and breadth of modern incidents was only part of Daniel’s journey as an author. We learned about the difficulties encountered seeking a publisher, an agent, distribution channels, designing the cover, and making sales. Daniel also shared his appreciation of his book club reading and reviewing his work.
Daniel summarized the chapters in his book and noted that several of his candid perspectives might be met with displeasure or disagreement. However, it was obvious to us that the goal of his writing was not to become wealthy from his effort, but rather to illustrate the value of skepticism and honesty in writing, and to give us a great presentation.
Note from John Roebke: Invocations can be a faith traditional prayer, or a meditation, or inspirational verse or quote. Brief 20 – 30 seconds. Light-hearted is okay. Option: focus on our Mission of Service Above Self. Need an idea – Google Rotary Invocations. Not a personal talent? Don't wait, tell me NOW, 612-790-7067, john.roebke@live.com. I will be glad to name another. If I forgot that you told me not a talent, please forgive me. Remind me. If not a good DATE, trade with a mate.
