Gretchen Oppriecht represented our club at the State Fair Rotary District 5950 Conference and Service Project on August 24. Lisa Anderson (Chanhassen) kept her company. The state’s Department of Sanitation benefited from Lisa’s and Gretchen’s labors during a Waste Audit of refuse collected during the Fair. Sorting through the bags to identify quantities and categories was done to provide educational data for the public and packaging information to the Fair’s vendors. As a reward, Gretchen received a “behind the scenes” tour of the grandstand.
Michelle Kraus distributed packs of raffle tickets that will fund the Chaska Cares Music Festival. Sellers should ensure the ticket buyer’s name, address, phone and email information are legible. The portion not stapled to the packet is to be kept by the buyer so they can deposit the left stub to be eligible for prizes at the Fest. The “Night of Prize Ticket” should be ignored – it remains stapled to the other stubs. The buyer does not need to be present at the Fest to be entered in the drawing for half the cash collected. That winner will be announced at 8:45 PM on Sept. 20 at Firemen’s Park. The buyer’s personal information will be shredded after the Fest. To comply with Minnesota’s raffle rules, all stapled ticket stubs must be accounted for. Unsold tickets will not be billed to Rotarians. Proceeds should be given to Michelle or Keith Payne.
Matt Podhradsky invited golfers to sign up to play at the Town Course on Sept. 6 to participate in the all-day fundraiser that benefits the Miracle League.
HAPPY DOLLARS
With no Finemaster to liven up our morning, Happy Dollars nonetheless sprouted from Gretchen Oppriecht, Erin Kerber, Mike Wentzel and Matt Podhradsky.
ROTARY EXCHANGE STUDENT - Marcos Alonsos
Marco used his first time at the podium to share his excitement in being in Minnesota and spending many of his first days training and playing in the high school’s JV soccer team. He went camping with his host family (Michelle Kraus) and enjoyed his s’mores and fishing endeavors. Contact: marcos.jalonso1608@gmail.com ph 952-994-3616
Erin Kerber provided the results of the survey returned by 30 of our 46 active members. A PDF of the slides has been sent out.
From Erin’s email sent on Aug. 29: “Now What?
Our main focus is to tackle our current Dues structure and make some changes to lower our quarterly dues. Then, we can put our focus towards increasing membership. Jean and Erin will put together some options and bring it to the club. However, this is your club too! We encourage you to share your ideas regarding potential meeting locations, or maybe you prefer to stay put. We will follow-up on any ideas you have.”
Note from John Roebke: Invocations can be a faith traditional prayer, or a meditation, or inspirational verse or quote. Brief 20 – 30 seconds. Light-hearted is okay. Option: focus on our Mission of Service Above Self. Need an idea – Google Rotary Invocations. Not a personal talent? Don't wait, tell me NOW, 612-790-7067, john.roebke@live.com. I will be glad to name another. If I forgot that you told me not a talent, please forgive me. Remind me. If not a good DATE, trade with a mate.
