"Our Final Jeopardy category is ROTARY GUEST SPEAKERS.
Players, here’s your clue. “This person is our Chaska Rotary Guest speaker today.”
Erin - you buzzed in first.
ERIN: “Who is Molly Fleming?”
That’s right – our guest speaker today is Molly Fleming.
Molly is a fellow Rotarian and is the immediate past president of the Rotary Club of Minneapolis South – her grandfather having been a founding member of that club.
As we learned in the video, in 2010 she was a Rotary Youth Exchange Student spending a year in South Africa.
Molly has a bachelor’s degree in history from the U and a Masters Degree in Advocacy and Political Leadership from Metro State University.
Her work has been mostly in local politics, conservation, and
sustainable agriculture, and currently works in administration at the
Wedge Community Co-0p.
She is married with a 9-month-old daughter and lives in South Minneapolis.
Importantly, Molly is a trivia whiz and qualified to appear on Jeopardy this past May. We have invited Molly to share her Jeopardy experience. So please welcome the person I’d most like to have on my bar trivia team - Molly Fleming."
Molly is a Rotarian and a member of the Minneapolis South club. She was a Rotary Exchange student in 2010 in South Africa. Molly grew up in a trivia and knowledge-focused home and experienced many years of Quiz Bowl-type competitions. She described her process of applying and becoming a JEOPARDY! contestant, starting with an online “Jeopardy Anytime Test” (www.jeopardy.com/be-on-j/anytime-test).
The subsequent hurdles of more testing and interviews culminated in travel to Culver City, California with her new baby and her family after receiving “The Call.” Molly provided the surprising understanding that most contestants know most of the answers, but managing their nerves and controlling the buzzer make up the significant factors in winning. Her episode was taped in June 2022, but the scheduled showtime was pre-empted by the US Open. Eventually, she was able to see herself reach the ultimate knowledge challenge because she received a recording from the show’s producer.
Molly observed the keen interest displayed by our group, and challenged us by closing with “YOU can be on JEOPARDY!”
