Without any embarrassing fanfare, our Exchange Student Marcos Juan Alonsos attended our meeting and met with fellow students Madison Edwards and Summer Mazhary. Gretchen Oppriecht and David Brecht were the Masters of Ceremony for the annual breakfast provided to the new educators of Eastern Carver County. Celi Haga, Lisa Anderson and Sheryl Hough also contributed their horsepower and speaking to the memorable event. Eighth grade musician Brielle Christenson provided professional-level guitar and vocals for our breakfast enjoyment (musicbybrielle@gmail.com).
David Brecht has joined Lisa Anderson in the Chanhassen Rotary, and members of their club also attended today’s breakfast to celebrate the teachers and staff educating the 9,000 students of our communities. The District Superintendent Dr. Erin Rathke spoke. Each of the principals introduced their new cohorts.
Teacher of the Year 2024 Lani Grafelman (Chaska Middle School West) provided inspiring and enthusiastic motivation to the group. Fortunately, she did not become a finemaster and quiz us on algebra or other aspects of 8th grade mathematics. Lani advised the attendees to pursue 3 goals: Have fun. Take care of yourself. Survive by establishing relationships to form a supportive team. Some of her other advice: Embrace chaos. It’s okay for students to see you are learning.
To close the meeting, David Brecht embraced his role as Bob Barker (“Price is Right”) as he voiced “Come on down!” to the winners of Target gift cards.
