Cindy Anderson invited us, our guests and potential new members to our Fall Social on Sept. 27, starting at 5:30 PM at the Solseng farm. Beverages will be provided and your contribution to the pot luck will be welcome. Carver County Arts Consortium’s Art Wander (Link) will have artists showing in the other buildings at Phil’s property, so you should come early to see them before closing time.
Cindy also brought posters to be distributed everywhere to encourage attendance at the Chaska Cares Music Fest. A sign-up list is being generated to ensure we have staffing for our beverage sales.
Dan Keyport reminded us of the annual HERF cigar-honoring assembly at his house and garden, on Sept. 12. Donations will be made to the 360 Journalism program at the University of St. Thomas. (Link)
Erin Kerber updated the current revenue from raffle ticket sales ($7620) and encouraged us to keep working toward our $40,000 goal. Please turn in completed stubs and proceeds to Erin. She was successful with sales at Carver Steamboat Days. Lindsey Hagen will be generating raffle sales at Waconia’s Nickle Dickle Days. Matt and Ryan will be working at the Chaska VFW. Neil Wingert and Gretchen Oppriecht will be working a table at the Latin Music and Food Festival on Sept. 12.
Matt Podhradsky reported $10,000 was received from sponsors of the Chaska Cares Golf Day, and another $10,000 was generated from course fees. WOW!

PRESENTATION:School Referendum - Dr. Erin RathkeLink
Rotarian Susana DeLeon, assistant principal at Chaska High School, introduced Dr. Erin Rathke, the Superintendent of Independent School District 112. Dr. Rathke is very familiar with our club, most recently attending the New Educators Breakfast last month. Her presentation today centered on “The Eastern Carver County Schools Difference” as part of the district’s publicity campaign in preparation of the November 4 School Referendum vote.
The voting results will determine if there will be an increase in the general education revenue of $742 per pupil, paid by a property tax levy for households within the district. Dr. Rathke would like the voters to appreciate the characteristics of the district that warrant this increase. These include student-centered spending, a student-teacher ratio that supports strong academic preparation, a safe environment, enriching extra-curricular activities and organizations, and a stable teaching staff.
Dr. Rathke’s presentation included several points of data that support the referendum’s funding increase.
Invocations can be a faith traditional prayer, or a meditation, or inspirational verse or quote. Brief 20 – 30 seconds. Light-hearted is okay. Option: focus on our Mission of Service Above Self. Need an idea – Google Rotary Invocations.
