Invocation: Dan Keyport
Tina Stofferahn is the Director of Day Services at MRCI - a social services organization that empowers individuals with disabilities and disadvantages through skill-building and employment opportunities.
Prior to her assignments at MRCI, Tina worked at Achieve Services, Dakota Communities, and ISD 112 Club Care. Tina has a degree in Psychology from Crown College, and in her spare time is an active member of her local Lions Club.
From Tina’s Linked In page: her busy schedule includes:
Responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of day service programs and ensure compliance with state, federal, and CARF regulations (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.).
Serves as an ambassador for MRCI through presentations and involvement in community functions to develop and maintain relationships with team members, funding sources, community members, and other stakeholders.
Develops working alliances with like-minded organizations to leverage influence and opportunity while maintaining a robust professional network.
Trains and creates cross-functional teams ensuring high-quality staff members are hired, motivated, developed, and managed to perform person-center services for individuals through day service programming and sharing of information with employment services.
Ensures systems and processes are in place to support informed and timely financial decisions that result in exceeding revenue goals and maintenance of budget expenses.
Tina provided a synopsis of MRCI’s formation and history, starting with providing rehabilitation for polio victims and wounded veterans of the Korean Conflict. Through all the transformations in the past 65 years, MRCI’s mission has been constant – to create innovative and genuine opportunities for people with disabilities or disadvantages at home, at work and in the community.
Despite the stresses of the COVID pandemic on social interaction and business operations, MRCI is still able to place individuals in jobs that are suited for their skills and training. MRCI provides a pathway for individuals to be fully integrated into the community while receiving quality care and while engaging in personally meaningful experiences.
Answering the question “How can Rotarians help?” Tina suggested we could become a volunteer to help them succeed in their Mission, host a visit to your place of employment, provide a temporary meeting space for MRCI activities, or refer potential employees to join the MRCI staff.
Their main office is in Mankato, phone 507-386-5600, or 800-829-7110, website www.MyMRCI.org.
Club Announcements and Updates
Finemaster and Happy Dollars: Finemaster for the day was Ray Schalow. Bullying Gary Cooper started the fining and Ray worked his way around the room filling the blue pig. Changing his tack, Ray complimented Phil Solseng and his wife for their decades of support for the Exchange Student Program. Happy dollars were provided by Ken Hiller, Dan Keyport, Gary Hardel, and Mike Fahey.
Gary Hardel invited us to a Club Social gathering on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 5:00 – 6:30 PM at the J. Carver Distillery in Waconia.
Gary Cooper announced the STRIVE mentoring activities will re-start on Feb. 17 at Chaska High School, room G250.
Dennis Loving thinks it would be a good exposure to Pond Hockey if Rotarians could observe the event at Lake Minnetonka, Feb. 10 - 13. This event benefits the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Please contact him if you can help. For more information: https://pondhockeylakeminnetonka.com
