Dave Pokorney introduced speakers from the Community Action Partnership (CAP Agency) and provided the background of the West Creek Apartments – an 18-unit supportive housing project for homeless young adults that opened in August 2024 at 401 Hickory Street in Chaska. After an introduction by Dr. Richard Scott, former Chaska Rotarian and currently Deputy Division Director of Health Services for Carver County (CCHHS), representatives from CAP and CCHHS presented the status of the West Creek Apartments project.
Susan Misel, the Director of Housing and Emergency Services at the CAP Agency, described the apartments and the process which residents follow to live there. She shared points of success and some of the challenges encountered in the six months of operation. Partnerships have been instrumental throughout the development of the project and the continued benefits to the residents and our community. Important financial contributions from Unit Sponsors include gifts from Bob and Sharon Moeller, Bob Roepke, Dave Pokorney, and Jim Dauwalter.
Community partnerships include the Chaska Library, Bountiful Basket, Westwood Community Church, Project Life Cycle, Love INC, SW Prime, Heart Ministries, Soar Advocates, and Chaska Police. The CAP Agency has recently opened an office on 2nd Street in Chaska (link). This will help the administrative staff perform case management and the services provided to the residents. Property management is provided by Premier Management and Development.
Note from John Roebke: Invocations can be a faith traditional prayer, or a meditation, or inspirational verse or quote. Brief 20 – 30 seconds. Light-hearted is okay. Option: focus on our Mission of Service Above Self. Need an idea – Google Rotary Invocations. Not a personal talent? Don't wait, tell me NOW, 612-790-7067, john.roebke@live.com. I will be glad to name another. If I forgot that you told me not a talent, please forgive me. Remind me. If not a good DATE, trade with a mate.
