Mike Wentzell thanked the group that held up our club’s traditional Highway Cleanup last week. Also a tradition – Greg Anderson’s selfie with the volunteers.
We all owe Greg many thanks for keeping our activities and contributions in the minds of the community by his postings and photos on Facebook. Look them up by searching Rotary Club of Chaska.
Ken Hiller urged us to attend next week’s meeting to hear about the T. Roosevelt Presidential Museum.
Erin Kerber requested volunteers to sell Raffle Tickets at several community events: Fire + Ice, River City Days, Carver County Fair, Carver Steamboat Days, Latin Music Fest, and the main event, our Music Fest. Refer to the Upcoming Events in this newsletter for specific dates.
Erin also asked for suggestions for the George Klein award.
Dan Keyport received his Paul Harris plus 6 pin for his continued donations to the Rotary Foundation. Here is an example of the bling that you can accumulate from Rotary!
Bre McQuade, our visiting 2012-13 Exchange Student from New Zealand, and now living in Edinburgh, Scotland provided an update of where she’s been, what she’s been doing, why she’s here for a few days, and other comments that made us all smile. Then and Now photos:
HAPPY DOLLARS
Donations were happily provided by Ken Hiller, Sheryl Hough, Neil Wingert, Wayne Ward, Mark Omann and Bre McQuade.
ROTARY INTERNATIONAL
Phil Solseng added the Duna club flag from Budapest, Hungary. The flag’s provenance is one of the many mysteries within the history of our club!
Exchange Student:Marcos Alonso
Final tests are over for Marcos, and he looked relieved. One more tennis match to go. He showed us photos of his coaches and a very professional-looking golf swing.
Marcos and interns Summer Mazhary and Madison Edwards will be graduating from Chaska High School on May 29, 7 PM at the 3M Arena in Minneapolis. The ceremony will be streamed, but the school district hasn’t posted the streaming link yet, but here is where you should find it: Graduation - Chaska High School
Dan and Georgiann Keyport provided us with vicarious adventuring on their Antarctica cruise through National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions. Luckily, the verbal description of the two-day ocean crossing from Argentina through the Drake passage was much more comfortable for us than it was for them. In Dan’s count of places he’s visited, he gets credit for three separate Territories and he would place this trip in his ”top-five” for enjoyment.
The cruise staff provided many educational moments before, during and after going ashore via Zodiac boats. Chinstrap and Gentoo Penguins, orcas, whales, seals and sealions all greeted the visitors from the north, and they didn’t mind the photos Dan took. We were also glad to share the experiences of our world-travelling friends.
The organization Latino Voices handed out gratitude awards to: The Chaska Rotary, Kevin Wright, Chaska Moravian Church, Officer Martin Godinez, Bountiful Basket, Virma Benke, & Carlos.
May 8 – STRIVE
Breakfast + Scholarships was organized by Bob Chinnock and the mentors and CHS advisor.
May 15 - West Creek Apartments
Our club members brought boxes and bags filled with donations of food and toiletries for West Creek Apartment residents.
Upcoming Invocation
Note from John Roebke: Invocations can be a faith traditional prayer, or a meditation, or inspirational verse or quote. Brief 20 – 30 seconds. Light-hearted is okay. Option: focus on our Mission of Service Above Self. Need an idea – Google Rotary Invocations. Not a personal talent? Don't wait, tell me NOW, 612-790-7067, john.roebke@live.com. I will be glad to name another. If I forgot that you told me not a talent, please forgive me. Remind me. If not a good DATE, trade with a mate.
