Nate Bostrum introduced Khai Tran, the Executive Director of the Community Foundation of Carver County. Khai received the Rotary International Distinguished Service Award in 2016. This is Rotary’s highest level of recognition for community service. Khai used a short video to explain the purpose of the Community Foundation. It can be viewed at www.communitygiving.org/cfcc.
The Foundation has been in place for 18 years and is governed by a 12-member Board of Directors that has included several Chaska Rotarians. The mission of the Foundation is to build the social and financial capital of local communities, assist donors in achieving their philanthropic goals, and to help people plan their giving to have an impact in their local community. The Foundation has several funds for donors to consider, and Khai described how the philanthropic desires of individuals, companies, non-profits, and service organizations can be met and sustained with very little being lost to taxes, overhead and administrative fees.
We were encouraged to help our Community Foundation by:
Making a cash donation.
Set up a Donor-advised Fund.
Volunteer with the Foundation.
Make a gift of stock or an estate gift.
Serve on the Board of Directors. Currently on the Board: Nate Bostrom, Kevin Hegland, and Bob Roepke.
Finemaster and Happy Dollars: Dan Keyport questioned each table about historical events that are contained in the Chaska Historical Society’s book Chaska – A Minnesota River City, Prehistory to 1950. To our credit, several questions were answered correctly! Happy dollars were provided by Wayne Ward, Gary Cooper, Mike Fahey, John Roebke, Dan Keyport and Neil Wingert. Neil was happy because the questions came from a quiz he created for the Historical Society’s quarterly newsletter.
Keith Payne tasked us all to access our calendars and add the Pond Hockey tournament on January 26-29 in 2023. Dennis Loving is leading our organizing for the event and is asking for Committee leaders and members. Non-Rotarians are invited to participate.
Gary Cooper notified us that the STRIVE mentoring meeting was cancelled due to the illness of the speaker.
Matt Podhradsky is initiating the Christmas in May project. Nominations are needed to select homes that would benefit from the upgrading work done by volunteer teams during this annual event.
