Last Week's Presentation

Dan Keyport introduced our tag-team presenters. Raj Khankari is Vice-President of R+D at Kindeva Drug Delivery and author of 16 patents in the pharmaceutical industry. He was president of the Maple Grove Rotary Club and received the “Global Grant Guru Award” for initiating $425,000 for charitable projects in 2020. He is currently District 5950 Assistant Governor and Fundraising chair.

Via Zoom, Raj reminded us of the 7 areas of focus for Rotary International. The source and distribution of funds were graphically illustrated, as well as how we can donate to the Rotary Foundation and meet its goal of “Every Member, Every Year.” Raj presented a diagram that traced donations from individuals, clubs, districts, and global funds.

Tim Mulcrone is a member of the Chanhassen Rotary and for 10 years has been leading Polio Plus efforts to eradicate polio. He illustrated his passion for this goal by once delivering a presentation while inside an “iron lung” that was a familiar sight from those of us who were faced with exposure to the virus in the 1940s and 1950s before the preventive drugs had been developed. We were pleased to hear that only 2 cases of polio have been identified this year, but we need to be free of any cases for 2 – 3 years in a row before we can claim victory in its eradication.

Tim has coordinated a local Grant project to supply the Humanity Alliance with equipment to prepare meals for our neighbors who are nutritionally challenged. In July, our club heard Greg Pavett discuss the organization and its goals, and we have contributed $1,000 to help qualify for the Grant. Our District has also been notable in the high level of donations to The Rotary Foundation.

Club Announcements and Updates

FINEMASTER: It has been a long time since Peter Ivy acted as our official Groanmaster, and this time he did a Fine job! Those of us who had read the November issue of the Rotarian must have been pleased to re-live the chuckles they had from the article by Kevin Cook, and the artwork by Renaud Vigourt. Every table paid for Peter’s entertainment.

Happy Dollars were celebrated by Mike Fahey, Ray Schalow, Denny Loving and Gretchen. Erin Kerber donated too, because she may be visited by former 2018-19 Exchange Student Julia Moschioni from Brazil. Julia will be attending a university in Virginia for a semester.

Erin Kerber has added another service to which she is giving her attention. Toys For Tots donations can be brought to our Rotary meeting and Erin will add them to those collected by her company– Legacy Wealth Advisors. Thank You Erin!

Nate Peterson has been accepted as our newest member. He will receive his official badge later. His photo is on the left, and our latest Master at Arms and Pond Hockey enthusiast, Denny Loving is on the right.
