Hooked on Books was held on February 10 at Chanhassen High School. We support this every year, and this event was attended by several Rotarians, along with our exchange student Viola Bavastro. Donated books were organized, and children and their adults were guided through the selection of free books. Thank you to all our members who helped!
The Rotary Board of Directors will meet via Zoom on Friday Feb. 16 starting at 7:00 AM.
Greg Anderson invited us to participate in “Speed Friending” on Wednesday Feb. 27, 6:00 – 7:30 PM at Patron Restaurant in Chaska.
After our BINGO nights in March, we’ll resume our meetings at the Event Center, and our members will be responsible to arrange presentations or programs. Please notify Keith Payne or Michelle Kraus when arrangements have been made. Soon, directions for speakers will be sent to our members.
Andy Haugen asked for volunteers to support our club’s involvement at the Lakefront Music Festival in Prior Lake, scheduled for July 12. We have committed 18 people to support selling beverages (no cash involved). Shifts will be available from 6:30 - 10:30 PM.
EXCHANGE STUDENT: Viola Bavastro
helped make Hooked on Books a successful example of our club’s support for our community. She recently auditioned for the Chaska High School performance of “The Play That Goes Wrong.” Even if it does, Viola let us know that she is liked by the dog at Andy Haugen’s home. After the school year ends, Viola will depart Chaska to participate in a tour of the East Coast, then leave for Italy from Orlando, FL as the finale of that trip.
PRESENTATION: Our BINGO Plan for March, Keith Payne
With sixteen Rotarians (and some happy customers at Patron’s) eagerly attentive, Keith Payne discussed the plan for “Bingo Bedlam” at four successive meetings in March (7, 14, 21, 28) at the restaurant, starting at 6 PM. With the avoided cost of our Event Center breakfasts and the expected income from the Bingo games, our club is anticipating several thousand badly needed dollars added to our bank account. The cost of the required gambling license may limit our Bingo games to these March dates.
Helpers will be needed to handle the cash received from the Bingo cards and greeting of players so they are directed to the upstairs fun. Tentative schedule – 7th: Neil Wingert, Sheryl Hough; 14th: Cindy Anderson, tba; 21st: Ken Hiller, tba; 28th: tba, tba. Keith, Michelle Kraus and others will handle distribution and collection of cards.

Note from John Roebke: Invocations can be a faith traditional prayer, or a meditation, or inspirational verse or quote. Brief 20 – 30 seconds. Light-hearted is okay. Option: focus on our Mission of Service Above Self. Need an idea – Google Rotary Invocations. Not a personal talent? Don't wait, tell me NOW, 612-790-7067, john.roebke@live.com. I will be glad to name another. If I forgot that you told me not a talent, please forgive me. Remind me. If not a good DATE, trade with a mate.
