Thanks to Andy Haugen for providing Sgt. at Arms help in the morning!
Michelle Kraus and Keith Payne summarized the financial aspects of the Chaska Cares Music Festival. They thanked the many Rotarians and Chaska City employees who organized and delivered a smooth and enjoyable experience for the community. Because of a generous anonymous donor, who helped create Hope in Our World, the Club netted a profit of one dollar!
FINEMASTER: George Glaros, via Erin Kerber
George Glaros handed the trivia script to Erin Kerber to test our knowledge about what everyone talks about, but no one can change – the weather. Relying on our Four-Way Test, wrong guesses helped donations accumulate. At the end, someone gave away the big clue to multiple choice tests if you don’t know the correct answer – “always choose C.” Bob Lindall was still smiling when he donated Happy Dollars. Thanks, George, for exercising our morning synapses!
ROTARY EXCHANGE STUDENT: Viola Bavastro
Viola Bavastro cheered on the Chaska High football team that played on Wednesday night, so her voice was subdued but happy because her team won!
Tonia Teasley, Executive Director of the PACER Center since March, was glad to introduce herself and recalled that she had spoken to us in June of 2022 representing the American Red Cross. Today, she also shared a message from her heart.
From its website: “When PACER was established in 1977, it began with one project: Parents Helping Parents. Then as now, PACER was staffed primarily by parents of children with disabilities dedicated to educating other parents and improving the lives of children with disabilities throughout Minnesota.”
Tonia is one of those parents, bringing personal experience and conviction as well as her executive director skills to guide the organization. She admitted that PACER successes have changed her assumptions about the limitations of disabilities. The many programs and resources that are provided help parents navigate the systems and obstacles they might face when raising disabled children and those who have grown into adults. Her twin sons are now 22 years old, and PACER’s program such as their Technology Center are still helping. Tonia brought two props to help us “feel” those advances – a vibration-reducing spoon, and a Braille-text conversion keyboard. Another PACER program addresses bullying and promotion of inclusion through life-size puppets. Tonia addressed those who want to help by asking them to participate as volunteers, provide financial support (on Give To The Max Day) and attend their annual Gala next April.
Note from John Roebke: Invocations can be a faith traditional prayer, or a meditation, or inspirational verse or quote. Brief 20 – 30 seconds. Light-hearted is okay. Option: focus on our Mission of Service Above Self. Need an idea – Google Rotary Invocations. Not a personal talent? Don't wait, tell me NOW, 612-790-7067, john.roebke@live.com. I will be glad to name another. If I forgot that you told me not a talent, please forgive me. Remind me. If not a good DATE, trade with a mate.
