Katy Campbell, from an Edina Rotary club, invited us to help Minneapolis get selected as the location for the Rotary International Convention in 2029. The other city being considered is San Francisco. Events are scheduled next week, Sept.25-28. For more information: katy.koch.campbell@gmail.com To register for events: link
Keith Payne reminded us that our next meeting will again take place at the Chaska Community Center, Brick City Room. Breakfast will be Bring Your Own if you want in addition to the granola bar assortment that will be available.
Michelle Kraus asked us purchase tickets for our Music Fest on October 7. She encouraged us to promote the event through all possible means. Our interns John Goodman and Sophia Pesina used the “put a sheet under the windshield wipers” method! Link to event website.
Cindy Anderson reminded us of the club’s Fall Social on September 23 at Phil Solseng’s “Tin Shed” located at 16315 Jonathan Carver Parkway. Her studio and others will be open as part of the Carver County Arts Consortium “Art Wander”.
We received Thank You notes from His House Foundation and City Council member Matt Udermann.
FINEMASTER: George Glaros/Erin Kerber
George Glaros asked Erin Kerber to present his multiple-choice questions in the spirit of Who Wants to be a Millionaire. Each of us was supposed to donate a dollar for each incorrect choice. It was a fun way to collect $$ and avoid the usual humiliation!
ROTARY EXCHANGE STUDENT: Viola Bavastro
Viola has been attending Chaska High School and participating with the Dance Team, and is very busy learning about this new place called Chaska, Minnesota.
PRESENTATION: Kate Campbell + Fred Middendorf, Benefit Bashers
Kate and Fred described their organization’s unique method of fund-raising – they hold a big Halloween party at the Chaska Event Center. Those attending donate whatever they can afford, and a specific recipient gets the big pot of money! (Perhaps the process is a little more formal than that….) Previous events have helped fund the His House Foundation, Humanity Alliance, TreeHouse, Hawk Haul at Chaska High School, Chaska Police Community Outreach, Chaska Fire Department, Bountiful Baskets, Launch Ministry, JDRF, March of Dimes, and Fairview Foundation. On October 27, starting at 7 PM, the Miracle League and Field will be the center of attention and donations. The Benefit Bashers’ website also is set up to donate directly to our project. Costumes are optional, but enjoyment is practically guaranteed.
The Community Foundation of Carver County held a dinner on September 20 to honor philanthropy – in the forms of love, time and wealth. Cory Hepola, formerly with KARE 11 and WCCO, was the keynote speaker. Fifteen current and former members of Chaska Rotary were on hand to cheer for Gary and Sandy Cooper, who had been selected by the Foundation for their long history of providing their time, love and cash to support needs within the community.
Rotarians Bob Roepke and Kevin Hegland are on the Foundation’s Board of Directors and can provide more information if you are interested in learning about the Foundation or donating. Link.
Other News: Club Social
On Saturday evening, Sept. 23, Phil and Claudia Solseng with Cindy Anderson and family members organized our Fall Social gathering and dinner. The stormy weather didn’t dampen our spirits as we enjoyed the company of those we haven’t seen for a while or were newly met. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HARD WORK TO PROVIDE THIS EVENT!
Cindy’s art studio was still open for us to wander in and be delighted with her metal and glass sculptures. Visit her website to enjoy her artistry! Link to steelstoneglass.com
Upcoming Invocation
Note from John Roebke: Invocations can be a faith traditional prayer, or a meditation, or inspirational verse or quote. Brief 20 – 30 seconds. Light-hearted is okay. Option: focus on our Mission of Service Above Self. Need an idea – Google Rotary Invocations. Not a personal talent? Don't wait, tell me NOW, 612-790-7067, john.roebke@live.com. I will be glad to name another. If I forgot that you told me not a talent, please forgive me. Remind me. If not a good DATE, trade with a mate.
