George Klein Award
Invocation: Matt Podhradsky
Steve Mueller (pictured left), last year’s recipient of the George Klein Service Above Self Award, introduced his successor – Dan Keyport (pictured right). Steve noted that this is the 42nd award and Dan is the 17th Rotarian to receive it. After Steve explained the history and rationale for the award, and then listed all the services Dan had performed, we gave a standing ovation when Dan came to the podium. With his well-established humility and humor, Dan accepted the award by saying “Service is its own reward.”
Presentation
Michael Phelps, President and CEO of the Ridgeview Medical System (now “Ridgeview”)
Bob Roepke introduced Michael Phelps, the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Ridgeview Medical System. Mr. Phelps has worked with Ridgeview for 18 years and was selected as CEO in 2017. We were privileged to have him as our presenter during this special week for Ridgeview - their annual Golf and Taste Celebration raised more than $1.1 million at Island View Golf Course in Waconia, and after our meeting Michael was to announce that a partnership had been formed with Twin Cities Orthopedics to occupy the 5th floor that is being added to the Two-Twelve Medical Center in Chaska.
In his presentation, Michael reviewed major accomplishments of the past year and described the “transformative opportunity” that came with all the changes that were required to deal with the COVID pandemic. He stressed the importance of keeping those needing medical care close to home and establishing Ridgeview as a partner in building healthier communities. These principles, financial strength and organizational excellence are the basis for Ridgeview’s strategic plan.
Ridgeview’s Major Accomplishments:
Established an electronic medical records system across their health system locations and operations.
Accreditation of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Established Clinical Nurse Educator and Nurse Residency programs.
Minnesota’s first certified Senior Care Emergency Services provider.
Chaska and Waconia campuses are designated as Acute Stroke Ready Hospitals and established tele-neurology support with Abbott Northwestern Hospital.
