Club Announcements

Invocation: Lisa Anderson

Matt Podhradsky honored the club members who are veterans of military service.

Gary Cooper thanked Bob Chinnock for serving our club and currently leading the STRIVE program.

Julie Janke, Chaska Police Community Service Officer, invited us to participate actively and/or financially in the Heroes and Helpers event on Dec. 10, 9 AM to noon, at the Target store in Chaska.  Every year, our club supports this effort to provide store cards to families so they can share gifts with each other.  Our helping to wrap presents is always appreciated, and our assistance brings its own reward to us.  Attendees immediately gave over $130, and we can increase this amount by asking Kristy Miklas to add a donation to your quarterly bill, or channeling it through Chief Ryan Siebert.

FINEMASTER + HAPPY DOLLARS

Andy Haugen brought welcome personal touches to the Finemaster session. Selected members provided details about their careers and events in their lives, then named unfortunate others to pay their fines for them.  Those who shared their story included: Bob Roepke, Ken Hiller, Mike Wentzell, Gary Cooper, Mark Omann, and Greg Anderson.  Inspired Happy Dollars were donated by Mike Fahey, Matt Podhradsky, Ken Hiller, Steve Mueller, Gary Cooper, Lisa Anderson, and Mike Wentzell.

ROTARY EXCHANGE STUDENT: Natasha Palmelund

Natasha went to a restaurant noted for its pies, but she ordered the French toast instead.  A friend’s birthday party/sleepover resulted in the expected shortfall of sleep for everyone involved! When our weather permits it, she will be thinking of home as she hits the snowy slopes of Minnesota as a member of the school’s Ski Team.

In case you’ve wondered, Natasha will turn 18 years old this month. She is excited about being able to obtain a driving license back home in Denmark, where the cost of a license is over $4,000!

PRESENTATION:
The Rotary Foundation – Bob Moeller

Recalling his experience in the US Navy, Bob Moeller rang our version of a ship’s bell to arouse All Hands to Attention and to the Rotary Foundation. Bob provided a video and details that explained the impactful value of the Foundation and its fiscal efficiency (noted by its superlative rating by the Charity Navigator).

By multiplying individual donations, our contributions are delivered through grants that support projects aligned with Rotary’s areas of focus:
* Basic education + literacy
* Community economic development
* Disease prevention + treatment
* Maternal + child health
* Peacebuilding + conflict prevention
* Water, sanitation, and hygiene

Former club member Tom Moorse described a project led by his church group to improve the medical resources of a town in Peru.  Gary Cooper and Phil Solseng added comments that underline the visibility of the Foundation’s results and the powerful message of focused philanthropy.

Bob and Matt Podhradsky both urged every club member to donate (any amount) annually to demonstrate our commitment to Rotary and its values.  Methods for donation can be found on the Rotary website and through our Clubrunner page.
