YOUTH EXCHANGE STUDENT: Emma Keus
Emma enjoyed the fireworks at Steamboat Days in Carver. She worked at Chick-fil-A raising funds for the Chaska High School cheerleading program. Emma will be in her purple and gold uniform at the school’s football game on Friday night.
In the photo below, Emma is standing in the top row, on the right, behind the Chick-fil-A cow mascot. Also seen at the game – new Rotarian principal Victor Johnson.
HAPPY DOLLARS
Kevin Eide was happy to return from a European adventure climbing Mont Blanc. , Bob Roepke was happy that Dave Pokorney was honored at the Community Foundation of Carver County dinner this week. Dan Keyport and Gary Hardel also contributed this morning.
BENCH MOMENT
Ken Hiller shared his investigative prowess with an update on the Chaska Rotary bench, formerly in place outside City Hall. The bench has been discovered by the Chaska Police Dept drone and is now under FLOCK surveillance. It was placed haphazardly behind a rickety old garage where weeds have overtaken it. It's actually kind of spooky. So spooky that it attracted the ghost of Sid Hartman LINK. Rotarian Matt P. has also discovered it and apparently is taking his coffee breaks there to escape the intense criticism over the new home for the bench.
ROTARY INTERNATIONAL – Club Flag
Slipping gently back into reality, Ken offered the flag from Landerneau, France to help generate our appreciation for Rotary’s global reach and the similar causes we all support. This club’s toy duck race supported a local pediatric clinic.
PRESENTATION: Celi Haga, Report Financials, Line of Succession & Committee Meeting
Celi presented our club’s financials and expenditures for the past year. Income was $28,000 from dues, River City Days beverage sales and our Holiday Auction. Expenses were $32,200. Quick math revealed the bad news.
Possible short-term solutions and long-term choices were discussed with attendees. Intentions of previous changes in dues, providing meals, meeting location and frequency were tossed about. No decisions about leadership succession were made. Committees did not have time to meet. Good food and drinks at the club Social on Sept. 26 may provide the opportunity for informal discussion and paths forward.
Invocations can be a faith traditional prayer, or a meditation, or inspirational verse or quote. Brief 20 – 30 seconds. Light-hearted is okay. Option: focus on our Mission of Service Above Self. Need an idea – Google Rotary Invocations. Schedule Changes? – Arrange a switch and then contact Neil.
