Steve Larson introduced Tom Redman, the Director of Chaska’s Parks and Recreation department. Tom provided us with an in-depth description of the planned features and facilities under construction at Firemen’s and Schimelpfenig Parks in Chaska. The dramatic changes resulted from Park Board input to the City Council and input from the city’s Fire Department. Year-round access to its features and activities will bring twelve months of life to the downtown businesses and provide a venue for city and family events. The entry plaza, welcome hall, Chaska history walk, curling facility, and restaurant have been designed to bring an enjoyable experience to residents and visitors. A performing stage, trail around the lake, fishing pier, picnic shelters, playground and an “interactive” water fountain will provide fair weather activities for us to shake off our winter doldrums. Connections to city and county trails and bike paths, and an Event center for 300 people will allow Chaska to be a destination for surrounding communities. The Crooked Pint Alehouse promises to be a highlight of the area’s growing brewpub scene. Tom thanked our club for our sponsorship of the Fishing With Friends (Let’s Go Fishing) program that provides outdoor and angling experiences for those who don’t go out on their own.
