Dr. Paul Olson introduced Cindy Feickert and they both provided us with information about kidney disease and the National Kidney Foundation efforts to research and combat this prevalent disease. Cindy spoke of her husband’s experience of losing kidney function and her efforts to raise funds and solicit a donor for a kidney transplant. She and Dr. Olson piqued our interest with the slogan “Share Your Spare” and answered questions about donating and receiving a kidney. We were advised to request kidney function screening (ACR, GFR) during our next physical examination.
Risk Factors for kidney disease: Diabetes, high blood pressure, family history of kidney disease, age 60 +, body mass index greater than 30, African American, Hispanic, Asian, Native American or Pacific Islander.
