Notes From Our Most Recent Meeting
Future Planning for our Club
Keith Payne and Michelle Kraus, as outgoing co-presidents, did a lot of thinking and poster creating to prepare for our meeting. With a focus on solidifying our club’s operations and generating full involvement by all our members, committees were identified and described on posters along the wall. We were challenged to sign up for one or more of the activities then meet with like-minded others to develop ideas and actions to put the groups in place for the immediate future. The results will be shared soon.
  • Mike Wentzel will be looking for Rotarians to perform our annual Highway Cleanup on Wednesday, May 22. We will meet at the Crown of Glory church parking lot at 6 PM. Afterwords, around 7 PM, our Social will be at Schram’s Brewery.
  • Andy Haugen asked for three families to host our next exchange student. He will be arriving in August from Spain.
  • After this morning’s gathering, Bob Chinnock will conduct the last STRIVE meeting with oncoming juniors and the mentoring team.
  • Keith Payne congratulated Jean Heyduck on helping our bingo-caller with a meat raffle. She collected $408 to help our finances!
Exchange Student Update
Viola’s last day of school will be May 24, and her last meeting with us will be on June 13. She then will be going onto the East Coast with other exchange students and arrive home in Milan later in June. She won’t have much of a vacation because she’ll be studying for exams that will cover her studies in Minnesota. Viola will have one more year of high school after the exams. Her last school project has been to co-create a blog with another exchange student: lifeofanyearabroad1.blogspot.it.
News from Our Interns: Sophia Pesina’s senior project will be to prepare gift boxes to distribute to residents at elder care facilities. John Goodman will provide one of the commencement speeches at the ceremony on June 7, starting at 4 PM.
New Generations Recap  – Aimee Choi
Aimee Choi provided details and perceptions of her two months in Minnesota participating in the New Generations program. She described her hectic and stressed life in South Korea prior to her visit. Aimee has concluded this trip and her enjoyable experiences have been a turning point in her life. She described her happiness while staying with the three host families: Solsengs, Andersons and Keyports. Her list of “first time” activities, places she visited, food she had tasted and cultural events illuminated all the things that impressed her about our members, our community and our great place to live.
Bob Chinnock asked the STRIVE students for a year-end review after the April 25 Rotary meeting. The results indicated the most-liked presentation was the presentation made by Les Green. Bob thanked the Rotarians who contributed their time as mentors.
