Sept. 12 program: Angel Foundation, supporting Minnesotans with cancer

Chaska Rotary member Steve Larson introduced his co-worker John Rorke, who volunteers with Angel Foundation. Angel Foundation provides financial and emotional support to Minnesota adults and families as they deal with cancer. John has volunteered with the Angel Foundation for 11 years and spoke with passion and humor. John said that cancer is a great equalizer that seems to erase all the usual barriers that keep individuals apart. With that in mind, he said Angel Foundation provides support for all types of people who have all types of cancer. The foundation runs two main programs:

  • Emergency Financial Support to help with non-medical costs for those with need. Eight million dollars have been raised since the Foundation began in 2001.
  • Facing Cancer Together provides emotional and social support that is tailored for age and circumstances. John was proud of the many programs that bring fun and human contact to those with cancer and their families

John shared a video made at Camp Angel, and heard about teen outreach, art workshops, family night out, and teen mentors. The Charity Navigator that evaluates non-profit organizations gives four stars to Angel Foundation. For more info: www.mnagel.org or contact John at john.rorke@eplus.com, phone 612-501-3552.
